Old Bridgewater Bridge demolition update – November 2025

The Department of State Growth is continuing demolition of the Old Bridgewater Bridge, marking a significant milestone in the delivery of the New Bridgewater Bridge Project.

Demolition works started in October 2025, with crews carefully dismantling the existing structure.

Activities are being managed to minimise disruption to the community, including reducing noise and traffic impacts wherever possible.

Materials from the bridge are being salvaged and recycled to support sustainability and reduce waste.

Strict safety measures remain in place to protect workers and the public, with exclusion zones maintained around the site.

Environmental safeguards are also being implemented to protect the River Derwent and surrounding habitats.

Upcoming activities as Christmas approaches:

  • Continued removal of tower counterweights.
  • Arrival of the Leonora crane barge to assist with structural removal.
  • Road deck removal starting with the lift span followed by the flanking spans.

Concrete counterweights will be broken down between Tuesday, 2 December and Tuesday, 9 December 2025 from 7.00am to 6.00pm (excluding Sunday).

During these daylight hours, nearby residents may notice increased noise as rock and concrete are processed.

The Department thanks the community for its patience and cooperation as this important work progresses.
